Precision Board Syntactic Urethane (PBST) is the latest addition to the Precision Board product line. Like PBLT and PBHT, PBST is a closed cell rigid urethane tooling board that is available in a wide range of densities and sheet sizes. PBST, all densities, is Made in the USA.
Precision Board Syntactic Urethane Features
- Lower CTE – As low as 13.2 x 10-6
- Higher curing temperatures – As high as 365˚F
- Tighter, smaller cells
- Faster priming and painting
- Stronger physical properties
- Sharper routed edges and surfaces
- Large sheet sizes: 20″ x 60″ to 60″ x 120″
- Thickness 1/4″ to 20″
- No pre-preg outgassing
Due to its syntactic makeup, PBST allows a lower CTE and higher curing temperature for oven and autoclave composite curing. Having tighter, smaller, finer cells means less finishing material is required and faster finishing time is achieved. Tighter, finer cells also means stronger, sharper, crisper machined edges and surfaces. Machining Speed and Feed rates can be easily adjusted to create either chips and/or dust as desired. The new Precision Board Syntactic Urethane is made with certified Green “eco-friendly” urethane components and is the only board on the market with a certified “Carbon Balance” of 3 to 1 and “Rapidly Renewable Resource Content” of 18.9%. PBST Syntactic Urethane is totally inert and contains no VOC’s, no carcinogens and is non-toxic. Precision Board assists in meeting LEED requirements for obtaining USGBC and ICC 700 building credits. See Green Facts regarding PBST.

Choosing The Proper PBST Density
Density is typically selected according to application or specific job requirements. The primary difference between various densities of our PBST Syntactic Urethane is the thickness of the cell wall. The thicker the cell wall, the higher the density. The higher the density of Precision Board Syntactic, the stronger, tougher and heavier the product is. Density also directly relates to how much raw material is required to manufacture the product and therefore directly relates to its cost. The wide variety of densities available for PBST means that material cost can be managed according to application-specific performance requirements. Refer to our High Density Urethane Material Selection Guide for help with product selection. If you need help with cutter selection, go to Onsrud’s Router Bit Search Tool and type in HDU.
Fast Turnaround on Custom Thicknesses
Because Precision Board Syntactic Urethane is manufactured in large blocks up to 20″ thick, they can be cut to produce sheets from 1/4″ to 20″ thick. As with density, the amount of raw material used to produce a given sheet size varies by thickness, so thickness selection can be made according to job specifications and material cost managed accordingly.
