Josh Lange and Precision Board

Josh Lange and Precision Board:
At the heart of Lange Customz’s success lies Precision Board from Coastal Enterprises. Lange seamlessly integrates Precision Board into his company’s products and services, leveraging its versatility and precision. Unlike other products on the market, Lange opts for Precision Board due to its competitive pricing, accessibility and local availability in California, the epicenter of aerospace and automotive innovation.
Precision Board’s diverse densities cater to Lange’s varied projects, from hand sculpting the jet-powered flying Speeder™ to crafting intricate tooling for time-attack race cars. Its lightweight composition and workability make it an ideal choice for prototyping and production alike. Whether shaping interiors for aircraft or refining prototypes to create tooling and carbon/Kevlar parts for JetPack Aviation, Lange relies on Precision Board for its cost-effectiveness and superior performance.
“Precision Board works really well for hand shaping and is cost-effective for our large projects,” remarked Lange. “Large tooling project costs can add up quickly, and Precision Board offers great weights and options. We primarily use the 4 and 6-pound weights and can add or subtract blocks as needed. Precision Board is very workable and easier to sand and shape than other foams. We can achieve very accurate CNC models for prototypes and tooling applications using the wide array of densities available to cater to each project.”

How Things Started:
Josh Lange, the visionary behind Lange Customz, has been a trailblazer in the automotive industry for over two decades. Specializing in custom Porsche and Ferraris, Lange’s journey from an industrial designer to a maestro of automotive artistry is a testament to his passion and expertise. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design and with a background in mechanical engineering from Cal Polytechnic San Luis Obispo, Lange’s affinity for building cars led him to create groundbreaking prototypes that garnered acclaim worldwide.

Lange’s foray into the realm of automotive design began with the SCAD student-built EXO Spider, a prototype crafted using 4lb Coastal Enterprises Precision Board. Debuting at prestigious events such as the 1999 Amelia Island Concours d ‘Elegance, Eyes On Design Detroit, and the New York Auto Show, Lange had found a media that could enable rapid and accurate prototype construction that would forever shape his career. Even before the EXO was finished, Lange had started his masterpiece, the Pangea prototype, which he hand-sculpted from 4lb Precision Board and showcased in the Main Hall of the SEMA Show in 2003, which solidified his reputation as an industry pioneer.
