Making the Gear- 2016 edition
Many of you recognize the piece that first garnered us national attention. Synergy’s gear set was featured in magazines and on our supplier sites for almost a year. Our friends at Coastal Enterprises even use it as a backdrop print for their trade show booth. That gear now calls Multicam’s Grand Rapids tech center home. Since we didn’t want the Multicam tech center in Cincinnati, Ohio to feel left out, we decided to build one for their showroom as well
Fetch Sign – Woof 4
Today we are fabricating the interior frame of our sign. We are using 1″ Square steel tubing. We’ve pocket a raceway into the back of each sign panel. Peter is setting the steel pieces in place, we’ll tack weld them inside the sign for a perfect fit then take it out and complete our welds. Here it is all welded up and ready for assembly
Designing with EnRoute
Almost any time I need to design something in scale EnRoute is my program of choice. The program can handle large scales without difficulty. I’ve designed entire theme parks using it. Currently we are in the preliminary stages of designing a new project
Heavy duty steel!
We’ve been busy this week welding up the lower sections of the hull. The cutting files for the plate sections were all designed in EnRoute and cut on the MultiCam CNC plasma cutter. Even though there are many large pieces, they went together very quickly on account of the accuracy of the cuts. Three days into the assembly we are making good progress!
The Sign Invitational Retrospective ( Part 3 of 5 )
So what do you do when your the new kid on the block in a room full of the most creative sign makers in the world? Well, you sit and listen to all of them of course… That is what I did at least. I have been watching and hearing about the contestants for months, so of course, I was going to pick their brains! Only I really didn’t have to ask or pry they openly started giving tons of advice, tips and tricks right out of the gate. That’s what makes this industry great.
A very big ship!
With the workshops now behind us we are full blast into building the Viking ships for the Motiongate project in Dubai. Between the workshops we kept the MultiCam CNC plasma cutter busy and cut through tons of steel plate. These custom cut pieces will form the shape of the hull at each level. They have been cleaned up and bevelled where they will be welded together.
Time lapse of last Sculpture Magic Workshop
Through the years we have had numerous requests for a video of our workshops. We strongly believed that to properly experience a workshop you needed to be there, getting your hands dirty and engaging with us one on one. That belief hasn’t changed. But thanks to our good friend JD who attended our last workshop we did capture much of it in a time lapse video. Even this is but a quick glimpse for it was only one room of the workshop and didn’t include the meals, field trips or the things that happened outside
Great materials and Great companies.
Since day one here at the shop, we have strived to build relationships in the sign industry. And I don’t mean that typical vendor – customer relationship either. We have sought out the best companies to work with and built a level of trust with them that gives us the most flexibility as a company while helping them build their brands, which in turn builds ours.
Fetch Sign – Woof 3
Now it’s time to cut the elements that make up the face of the sign. The first element is the 3D bone which will have the Fetch name contour pocketed about an 1/8″ into the surface. Our rendering shows the layout and depth of the lettering. The bone is also carved out of 2″ HDU.
